Annual Michigan Beer & Brat Festival, Crystal Mountain, Thompsonville

Enjoy a Memorial Day weekend tradition at Crystal Mountain at the Michigan Beer and Brat Festival. The event features live entertainment slope side while sampling an enormous selection of Michigan’s finest microbrews, local hard cider and mead, and gourmet brats from northwest Michigan markets. Annual North Mitten Half Marathon, 10k & 5k, Crystal Mountain, Thompsonville
May 26, 2019
Kick off summer with a running start at Crystal Mountain’s 5th Annual Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k race! The North Mitten Half Marathon, 10k and 5k is a combination of paved roads, dirt roads and trails. The North Mitten route consists of primarily flat, open trails on Crystal Mountain property and will not climb the mountain. Both races will start and finish at the slope side tent near the Crystal Clipper chairlift. This is a great spring race for beginners and experienced runners. Runners must register online (registration now open). Entry fee is non-refundable. Bike Benzie UP North Fondo & Tour, Crystal Mountain, Thompsonville
June 1, 2019
Created by the Benzie Sunrise Rotary Club and hosted by Crystal Mountain, the Bike Benzie Tour is an annual charity ride for the benefit of area youth. The event offers four picturesque rides through beautiful northwest lower Michigan that challenge riders of all ages and abilities. Benzie County and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, where a large portion of the 1000100-mile loop is located, provide a rare combination of incredible natural scenery and perfect cycling terrain. Also, great food stops along the way feature regional snacks and more. All four rides start and end at Crystal Mountain.

Bike Benzie Tour offers four rides through beautiful terrain in Benzie County including 30, 45, 62 and 100-mile options that will challenge riders of all ages and abilities. The Fondo Competition will be restricted to the 62- and 100-mile rides, with awards for both individuals and teams. Frankfort Elberta Restaurant Week, Frankfort & Elberta
June 3 – 9, 2019
Frankfort Elberta Restaurant Week highlights the dynamic and growing culinary offerings along scenic highway M-22 and historic Betsie Bay. 

There will be many establishments participating. From fresh baked breakfast treats to full service dining and everything in between, Frankfort Elberta Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to beat the summer crowds and discover what’s fresh and hot on this year’s menus.

The event will feature culinary creations from each participating restaurant, available at fixed price points.  The pricing structure presents a simple choice for attendees while providing area chefs with the opportunity for menu creativity. Nightcrawler Hunt & Take a Kid Fishing, Frankfort
June 21 – 22, 2019
The 16th Annual Take-A-Kid Fishing will be held June 21-22 at Mineral Springs Park in Downtown Frankfort.  The fun begins with a Nightcrawler Hunt on June 21.The Kids gather at Mineral Springs Park at dusk with their flashlights, rain gear (just in case) and buckets to gather their worms!  Then, June 22, bright and early, the whole family can enjoy a day of fishing!  Kids can bring their own fishing rod, or rods will also be available at the park.

Frankfort 48 – Film Contest, Frankfort
June 20 – 22, 2019
Aspiring filmmakers and those with photography and film interests are invited come to Frankfort, Michigan on June 20 for the second annual Frankfort 48! Participants will create a 3-to-5-minute film celebrating the beauty of Northern Michigan. Participants will have 48 hours to conceive their ideas, scout locations, film, edit, and present their masterpieces. Prizes will be awarded to the top filmmakers. The public is invited to attend the film showing, featuring the winning films, on Saturday, June 22 (Fee to attend). Michigan PGA Women’s Open Pro-Am, Thompsonville – Crystal Mountain

One of the premier Michigan golfing events, The Michigan PGA Women’s Open features some of the best professional and amateur women golfers from around Michigan and across the country. As is tradition, the weekend begins with the Michigan PGA Women’s Open Pro-Am, a 36-hole scramble, featuring mixed–and women-only teams, open to everyone. Crystal Mountain is proud to be celebrating 14 years as host of the Michigan PGA Women’s Open. During this PGA event they will welcome some of the top players in women’s golf from throughout Michigan and around the country to their beautiful Mountain Ridge course. Over the last decade, Crystal Mountain along with its committed partners have created an event that consistently attracts current and former LPGA players, club professionals and top amateurs from across the nation and around the world. In six out of the past nine years, the three-round championship winners have been determined on the final hole of regulation, or during a final playoff. National Coho Salmon Festival, Honor
September 6 – 8, 2019
Honor is considered the ‘birthplace’ of salmon fishing in the state of Michigan, as the first salmon were planted in the Platte River. Tri Up North Triathlon (Bike, Paddle, Run), Frankfort

The Tri Up North Triathlon is a bike, paddle, run triathlon in Frankfort, Michigan. Located on Betsie Bay and the Western shore of Lake Michigan, Frankfort is the perfect location for a triathlon. 2015 was the inaugural year for this event which was specifically geared toward beginners and those looking for a little motivation to become more active. In 2016, the Challenger Course was introduced which is a competitive course for experienced athletes and relay teams. Their goal is to engage young people, families and individuals to make healthy choices and live an active lifestyle so everyone can enjoy all that Northern Michigan has to offer. A fun 5k in the middle of February for crazy runners who are willing to brave the elements of cold temperature and 30 mph gusts off of Lake Michigan. This walk/run event starts at the top of Elberta’s beautiful lookout over Lake Michigan and proceeds through town along the Betsie Bay to Frankfort’s Main Street with the finish at the end of town just before the lighthouse.
